Sustainalize this! 4 - Battery Recycling
Will our kids ever know what it is like to refuel a car with gasoline, or will everything be electrified by then? In this episode Vincent and Yvo discuss electric batteries and what happens with them when they die. Learn all about battery basics, how they are recycled at the moment and in the future, plus how we could all be driving around like in Mario Kart in the future with wireless charging lanes. And remember, we are not the experts here. We are simply learning, together.
Sustainalize this! 3 - Hydrogen cars smart or DuMb?
In this episode Vincent and Yvo discuss the hydrogen again. This time however they explore why we should not focus on putting it into our cars - of any size. Learn all about hydrogen concept cars, energy efficiency, why Vincent is not wearing a sweater while having the heater on, upcoming fully electric trucks and much more.
Hydrogen Cars. Smart or DuMb?
Hydrogen has a key role to play in our sustainable future. Except for cars. It is time we acknowledge the future of land-based transport is battery-electric, not hydrogen-powered. This blog explores the beauty of hydrogen and why we should not put it into our cars - of any size.
The ‘Tesla Effect’ hits Germany as VW, Daimler, and BMW go Full-Electric
The auto industry witnessed a historic event happening in Germany in 2019, which went by largely unnoticed. In a rare act of unity, the leaders of the country’s big three Automakers; Volkswagen CEO Herbert Diess, Daimler CEO Dieter Zetsche, and BMW CEO Harald Krüger, all agreed that the future of German auto is the electric car. Over the next decade, each CEO would be pushing their respective companies to shift and embrace the idea of an electrified fleet.
Why the German car market has never been as shaken up as now
A tsunami of subsidized electric models is flooding the market and disrupting old car-sales models; never have this many occasions been sold as in the month of July 2020 in the Netherlands and Germany.
Recycling vehicle batteries
Helen Czerski went to Wendeburg in Germany to see if it really is possible to recycle the materials in vehicle batteries. She shows how this new and rapidly growing industry is developing and coming up with some interesting results, with lithium-iron batteries being economically recycled up to 70% (91% including graphite). Please send this to all the people you know who say 'what about when we throw all these fancy batteries into landfill.
3 Things we do not realize about Self-Driving Cars
Everybody talks about self-driving cars. Do we all know what it means? I believe most people do not understand the potential. There is little to no talk about the transformation of our cities once we have self-driving cars. There is a lot of discussion on who is responsible in a car crash with a self-driving car, but most people conveniently forget the fact that a lot of the legal framework for self-driving cars is already resolved. Most importantly, we never talk about the fact that self-driving cars will provide us with the biggest boost in income and of spare time since the second world war (some even say in recorded history).
Hydrogen Fuel Cell Cars Aren't The Dumbest Thing. But...
Hydrogen fuel cell technology was touted as the energy of the future in the 60's and 70's after NASA used fuel cells to power their spacecraft. But with improvements in battery technology and electric cars surging in popularity, did hydrogen miss its opportunity? Or is there still a place for fuel cell technology?
Extremely Disruptive Transition to Electric-Autonomous Vehicles by 2030
By 2030, virtually all U.S. passenger miles traveled will be served by on-demand autonomous electric vehicles (AEVs). This will wreck the current oil and car industry, but will also lead to the biggest increase in consumer spending in history.
