Yvo de Rooij

Storyteller and all-round lovely person

What does Yvo do at Mr. Sustainability

Write stories on subjects unknown to the wide audience or even on known subjects, but in the latter case change the perspective.

Core values

Try, fail, try again, learn. Do not self-constraint yourself or ideas beforehand.

Job Description

The universe is made of stories, not atoms. Because the human mind is a story processor, not a logic processor, we need to make stories to communicate our ideas and eventually sell our products. The Storyteller is the one who makes these stories, which come in all shapes and sizes. They can be long or short blogs, written words, but also videos, podcasts or even games. A story is successful when it is compelling, inspiring and sticky, which means people will tell them to others. A Storyteller therefore needs to be creative and make use of Mr. Sustainability’s values - curiosity, courage and collaboration. Main responsibilities of the storyteller include:

  • Make stories to inspire others and create ‘a fertile ground’ to sell our products and services.

  • Ensure the stories are consistent and in-line with our cause and values.

  • Interact with others to further increase the reach of our ideas.

  • Shape our cause and non-negotiables by writing summaries about important books, lessons and ideas.

About Yvo

My “Sustainable journey” began three years ago during my minor in Sustainability at the VU University. Mr Sustainability came to tell stories, share ideas for the future and recommended interesting books to read (“You guys haven’t read this one? You really have to read more!”). From this moment on, I followed this organisation until I decided that I wanted to join the cause. The main reason to do so is because I would like to inspire others as this platform inspired me. At my time here, I want to write monthly blogs that changes peoples perspectives, create stories that people talk about and in the best case create more traffic and therefore the reach of Mr Sustainability. Every beginning has an end, and when I reach the end of my time at the platform I hope to have contributed in such a way that it is a better place than when I arrived. But first: let’s get to work!
