Vincent Doedee
Mr. Sustainability - OG
I am a passionate, empathetic campaigner with an intrinsic curiosity, motivated to create the world of tomorrow. I seek to continuously improve myself and innovate the world around me. My personal mission is to study, explore and create. I feel driven to help others, progress human development in the realm of sustainable energy and to experience the extremes of the human existence.
My Past - Origins, Experience & Identity
I have always been motivated to go a little bit beyond the realm of what is possible. Born and raised in Tilburg, the Netherlands, my passion for energy began to reveal itself at the end of primarily school: one of the topics I did my book report on was nuclear energy. I completed grammar school in 2006, after which I started mechanical engineering at the TU Delft. During my student life I was actively engaged in several student organizational boards and taught Physics and Mathematics to high school students of all levels. I graduated with honors in Offshore Engineering on the concept design of subsea equipment at Cameron, Germany, in 2013. During an internship in 2012, I worked at Damen Shipyards Singapore to increase efficiency and optimize effectiveness in the work-preparation of aluminium high-speed vessels. It was during this time I first came in contact with lean, innovative thinking and how to build enduring, sustainable businesses. My experiences lead me to work at Heerema Marine Contractors in the roles of engineer and fabrication manager in Leiden, Singapore and Batam.
The Present - Current Activities & Skills
I am currently shaping the sustainability agenda of Heerema Marine Contractors. This consists of forming policy at executive level and kick-start projects that reduce Heerema's footprint and improve its sustainability. One of the projects that I realized was Shore Power in the Calandkanaal, one of the largest projects in terms of energy transition in the Rotterdam harbor in 2019-2020. It is in this position that I was prominent member of the executive team of Our Oceans Challenge, dedicated to a sustainable offshore industry, which has won the DuPont Sustainability Award and Offshore Energy’s Public Outreach Award. In addition I am active in the maritime chapter of the political party D66 and have organized (among others) two Offshore Industry Symposiums, one of which involved the KIVI Offshore Chapter.
Our Future - Goals & Desires
I firmly believe in a decentralized, sustainable future with a well-developed circular economy, in which energy is available for near zero marginal costs. There are clear signs and trends to be seen that will completely revolutionize modern-day societies. These signs include the advent of renewables and cheap energy storage, machine learning or A.I. and more. I would like to help in creating this sustainable future by creating a platform for sustainability and like-minded people to communicate on. Other goals include providing near free energy to people and building a space elevator (you need to dream big).
